Cancellation guide
Cancel a subscription with the merchant
Stopping the payment doesn't always end the subscription; some merchants keep the account open and may try another payment method. Cancelling with the merchant ends it properly.
Steps
- Find where you signed up. Search your email for the merchant's name plus "subscription", "receipt" or "renewal".
- Cancel in the account settings on the merchant's website or app. Look for Account, Membership, Plan or Billing, then Cancel or Turn off auto-renew.
- If you subscribed through an app store, cancel there. On Android: Google Play, then your profile, then Payments & subscriptions. On iPhone: Settings, then your name, then Subscriptions.
- Save the cancellation email or a screenshot showing the end date.
- Stop the mandate too if the payment ran on one: UPI AutoPay, card or NACH.
If you can't find a cancel option
- Email the merchant's support asking them to cancel and confirm in writing, and keep the reply.
- Then stop the mandate with your bank or card issuer, so further charges are refused.
- Cancelling a loan EMI, insurance premium or SIP mandate stops the payment, not the loan, policy or investment. Missed payments can bring penalties, a lapsed policy or a lower credit score. Talk to the lender or provider first.
- Keep every confirmation: screenshots, emails and reference numbers. You will need them if a charge comes back.
- Check your next statement to make sure the debit has actually stopped.
App menus and bank processes change and differ between providers; if a step doesn't match what you see, your bank's or app's help section or customer care can point you to the current option. This guide is general information, not financial or legal advice.
